About PaperFraud Detector
PaperFraud Detector is a data anomaly screening tool for researchers, journal editors, and graduate students. We believe research integrity needs better tools — not just expensive B2B services for publishers, but instant, free screening available to everyone.
Methodology
Our screening is built on published, peer-reviewed statistical forensics methods:
- Mosimann et al. (1995) — terminal digit analysis
- Newcomb (1881) / Benford (1938) — Benford's Law (leading digits)
- Hartgerink CHJ (2016, 2019) — statistical tools for detecting data fabrication
- Nigrini (1996) — applied Benford's Law
- Brown & Heathers (2017) — the GRIM test
- Peeters et al. (2016) — SPRITE
- Nuijten et al. (2016) — statcheck (p-value recomputation)
See the method explainers.
Where we stand
We are a screening aid, not a judge. A statistical anomaly is not fabrication. Our role is to help researchers screen suspicious data quickly — never to pass judgment on any paper or author. Final determinations must be made by competent institutions through due process.
Privacy first
All screening runs locally in your browser. Your data is never uploaded or stored. See the privacy policy.
